A nightclub fire in the popular Indian resort region of Goa has killed at least 23 people including several tourists, officials said.

At least 23 people were killed after a major fire broke out at a restaurant-cum-club in Arpora on Sunday, according to officials.

Most of the deaths were caused by suffocation, as the victims got trapped on the ground floor of 'Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub at Arpora, 25 km from Panaji, a fire official said.
