A Chinese carrier strike group sailing close to Japan kept up intense air operations on Sunday as it sailed into the Pacific Ocean east of the Okinawa Islands, Japan's Self-Defense Forces said Monday.

As China-Japan diplomatic row ripples into entertainment, over 30 Japanese performances have been abruptly cancelled, leaving millions of fans of Japanese culture in China worried about a potential broader cultural ban.

No end in sight to spat between Japan and China over Taiwan, as neither Tokyo nor Beijing shows signs of backing down.

China has attacked Takaichi, threatened economic retaliation and warned its citizens to avoid Japan. Takaichi said yesterday that Chinese warplanes had locked their radars on to Japanese fighter jets south-east of Okinawa on Saturday, in what she described as an “extremely regrettable” incident.

Last month Takaichi Sanae, Japan’s prime minister, said that an invasion of Taiwan could cross the threshold that requires a military response by Japan. That triggered an uproar from China, which cut some direct flights to Japan,

TOKYO, Dec 5 (Reuters) - The Japanese embassy in China issued a safety advisory on Friday ahead of next week's anniversary of "the Nanjing Incident", or the Nanjing Massacre, which it said is considered particularly sensitive.
